Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC)

(MCC)

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) epitomizes a rare yet notably aggressive cutaneous malignancy originating from Merkel cells, intricately positioned within the basal layer of the epidermis. Despite its infrequency, MCC's incidence has exhibited a persistent upward trend over recent decades, thereby posing substantial diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Noteworthy characteristics of MCC encompass its expeditious growth kinetics, proclivity for both local infiltration and distant dissemination, and its intimate association with advanced age, states of immunocompromise, and ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure.

Koru has made significant advancements in the development of a pioneering drug combination, poised to potentially elicit more enduring clinical responses by addressing intra-tumoral heterogeneity and circumventing drug resistance commonly encountered with monotherapies.

In our investigatory pursuits, we employed human malignant melanoma cell lines obtained from distinct clinical contexts: one derived from a 54-year-old female afflicted with malignant melanoma, and the other isolated from a lymph node metastasis originating from a 43-year-old male patient with the same malignancy. These cell lines served as instrumental tools in the evaluation of various combination therapies

Presently, our focus is directed towards a novel combination regimen, meticulously selected and undergoing rigorous reevaluation based on predefined criteria.

Through meticulous scrutiny guided by these stringent criteria, we aim to identify and refine a combination regimen that not only demonstrates superior efficacy but also exhibits favorable attributes in terms of tolerability and safety profiles. Such endeavors underscore our unwavering commitment to advancing therapeutic paradigms in the realm of melanoma treatment, with the ultimate objective of enhancing patient outcomes and quality of life.
